Finishing cancer treatment can feel like the beginning of another chapter.

For many people, travelling is part of that. It might be the holiday you thought about during treatment, time with family, a return to a favourite place or simply the chance to feel like you are getting back to doing the things you enjoy.

At Lighthouse Travel Insurance, we want to be there for those moments too.

Our support is not only for people going through cancer treatment. We help people at different stages of life after cancer, including those who have recently finished treatment, are in remission, continue to take medication or have been living beyond cancer for many years.

Because treatment ending does not mean your experience of cancer suddenly ends. And it should not mean you are left wondering where to turn when you want to travel again.

Can I get travel insurance after cancer treatment?

In many cases, travel insurance is available after cancer treatment has finished.

When you get a quote with Lighthouse, you will complete a medical screening. We may ask about your cancer diagnosis, the treatment you received, when treatment finished, any medication you take, follow-up care and your current health.

This allows us to understand your circumstances as they are today and assess the cover available to you.

You do not need to decide which parts of your medical history are important before you begin. Our medical screening process will guide you through the questions we need to ask.

Travel insurance after chemotherapy or radiotherapy

Completing chemotherapy or radiotherapy does not necessarily mean you need to wait a set amount of time before you can obtain travel insurance.

Recovery is different for everybody. Side effects can sometimes continue after treatment has finished, and your healthcare team is best placed to advise when you are medically ready to travel.

When arranging your insurance, answer the medical screening questions based on your current circumstances, including previous treatment, ongoing medication and follow-up care where asked.

If your health changes after you have bought your policy, contact us before you travel so we can explain whether the change needs to be assessed.

Do I need to declare cancer after treatment has finished?

You may still need to declare your cancer when arranging travel insurance, even if your treatment has finished or you are in remission.

Do not assume that cancer no longer needs to be mentioned because treatment ended some time ago.

Answer the medical screening questions accurately and tell us about your diagnosis, previous treatment, ongoing medication, follow-up appointments and other medical conditions when asked.

This means we can assess your circumstances properly and explain the cover available to you. If relevant medical information is not declared when required, it could affect your cover and may mean that a related claim cannot be paid.

From treatment to remission and beyond

Cancer can be part of your medical history without being the centre of your life.

That is an important part of what Lighthouse is here to recognise.

We want to support people while they are living with cancer, as they recover from treatment and long after treatment has finished. So, whether this is your first holiday since treatment or cancer has been in your past for some time, you can come to Lighthouse for travel insurance that considers you as an individual.

And through our partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support, choosing Lighthouse also helps support a charity that is there for people from diagnosis, through treatment, recovery and beyond.
